Everyone carries out some activities that involves manual handling on a daily basis. This can include; lifting, carrying and moving loads to some degree. These loads can come in the form of various objects of different sizes and weights but also include people. As a carer manual handling activities increases considerably and with that an increased risk of a manual handling injury. Manual handling injuries can affect different parts of your body, not only your back. These injuries can include muscle sprains, strains, trapped fingers, tears, pinched nerves or blood vessel and inflammation.

A Risk Assessment is carried out to determine potential manual handling tasks and where possible to eliminate these activities, mechanical aids such as a bath chair or powered hoists will be introduced. The Moving and Handling Procedure and Policy should always be used as a guideline.
